Those who want to open a farmhouse in Lombardy must comply with the regulations set in the Regional Law 31 of December 5, 2008.
This measure forms part of the main requirement for the aspiring entrepreneur to attend a specific training course of 40 hours, in order to obtain a Certificate of Approval, linked to the province of residence of the prospective owner.
Another important point to consider for those who want to open a farmhouse is the need to present a document of the actual connection between farmhouse activities and agricultural activities. A special feature of the context of Lombardy is the distinction between family farmhouses and business-like farmhouses.
The substantial difference between the two types is the maximum number of guests that can be accommodated daily, 10 and 60 respectively. For farmhouse activities pre-existing buildings should be used and, in the case of restoration of valuable facilities, it is necessary to submit the appropriate application before starting it all.
Regarding the administration of food and beverage, it is mandatory for operators to provide guests with all the information needed to have clear ideas about the origin of the products.
