Good news for wine producers: the online database E-bacchus, whose use had been made compulsory from January 1, 2013, is no longer mandatory for wine producers.

The introduction of this measure of cataloguing had caused some controversy, since in Italy the legislation concerning wine certification is already very complex, and the fact of having to enter a wine into an online database would have represented only additional bureaucratic slowness.

The victory was achieved after some requests by Coldiretti, through instances submitted to the European Commission. Controlling fraud is certainly important, but it is equally important to make sure to avoid useless bureaucratic weights, thus freeing wine producers from significant barriers to the development of a business that is crucial for our country’s economy.
