he best season for winter sports enthusiasts has started, and some people are already rubbing their skis, eager to ride the slopes. The crisis also involved the winter holidays, and staying at a farmhouse can be a good idea to optimize the costs and enjoy the charm of our mountains.

Many of the farmhouses located in mountain centers are located at the masi (“maso” is an Italian word impossible to translate in a clear way). What is a maso? It is a rural building (the name comes from the Latin mansio, which means “abode”), common mainly in the area of Trentino Alto Adige. It represents a way of living much older than farmhouses: masi are usually made of wood, and characterized by the presence of local facilities for the storage of food stuffs.

For the families of the impervious mountain areas a maso was and still is a resource, and with the explosion of winter tourism there are those who have decided to turn it into a restaurant and those who, instead, have decided to open a farmhouse. Staying at a historic maso can be a very special experience, in order to gain direct contact with a folk reality  of great charm, and with people who, every day, strive to promote the area in which they live in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.
