MeranoThe city of Merano, nestled in the valley to the convergence of Val Venosta, Val Passirio, Val d’Adige and Val d’Ultimo, is a destination rich in history and cultural attractions, which make it really special in the beautiful Alpine panorama of Trentino Alto-Adige.

The historic center combines a noble and elegant legacy with strong modernity. Let’s start from the Kurhaus, an Art Nouveau building designed in 1873 and the symbol of thermal Merano. Its location in the heart of the city makes it even today a privileged place for events. The new Merano Thermal Baths, a modern architecture in glass and steel, rise along the southern banks of the river Passirio, and continue the reputation as a city of Merano as a destination for well-being it has enjoyed since the nineteenth century.

It was here that the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, better known as Sissi, loved to spend long and relaxing stays. A statue and a route that winds from Trauttmansdorff Castle Gardens to the city center are dedicated to her, to visit that the Empress most loved.

Do not miss via dei Portici, to admire the typical facades dating from different period, and get to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, a Tyrolean example of Gothic architecture, dating back at least to 1200. The walk along the Passirio finally is ideal for relaxing among the artistic bushes and palms: Merano in fact is protected and enjoys a mild climate, which makes possible the growth of several exotic species.
