"A Casa Vecchia" is located in Fuscaldo (Cosenza), between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Sila mountains. The Bed and Breakfast Restaurant "A Casa Vecchia" is located in the hamlet of Scarcelli, in the middle of a hill, 175 metres above sea level, 5 minutes from the sea, on the Cosenza coast and 15 minutes from the mountains. Its favourable location makes it one of the only b&b restaurants of its kind, for those who want to spend their holidays in tranquillity. The structure is a 19th century farmhouse, formerly used as a mill; after the construction of the ex-SS18 it was used as a rural farm. It represents one of the few remaining intact testimonies of the spontaneous architecture existing in the Fuscaldo area. It is a typical Calabrian rural building, used for storage as well as partial processing of agricultural produce. Particularly noteworthy are the portals in tuffaceous stone worked with round arches, as well as the four windows with jambs also in tuffaceous stone, which give the entire façade a harmonious aesthetic and decorative appearance. The tuffs mentioned above were extracted from local quarries existing at the time in the territory of Fuscaldo. The load-bearing masonry was built with locally existing stones by highly skilled local workers at the beginning of the 19th century, a typical construction from Fuscaldo and Calabria in general. The building has been completely restored and returned to its former splendour. All rooms are equipped with private bathroom, heating, air conditioning, TV, safe and hairdryer. The B&B A Casa Vecchia also offers a kitchenette with a minibar shared with all the rooms. Rooms are cleaned daily, and sheets and bath towels are changed every two days. Check-in is from 12:00 onwards, and check-out by 10:00. Breakfast time is from 8:30 to 10:00. The restaurant was established as a hobby in 1990; in fact, it is run by a family. All this means that great care is taken with the products on offer, which are only local and of their own production such as: wines, cold meats, olives in oil or personally picked such as porcini mushrooms.
