The name comes from a terracotta plaque featuring the Madonna del Buon Pastore, a work by a family ancestor, the Redemptorist priest Luigi Montruccoli, created in the family kiln. That plaque now names an agriturismo just minutes from Castello di Canossa, set in a restored historic building with an internal courtyard, ancient well, and old wood-fired oven.
Five rooms, each named after local history: Le Tele di Matilde, La Fiaba, La Dama del Bosco, Il Sogno del Brigante, Ottocento. Exposed stone, wooden ceilings, terracotta floors. Private bathroom with shower, toiletries, bathrobes, Wi-Fi. Family-friendly solutions are available.
Breakfast features local products. In the restored old cellar, tastings of local cured meats, cheeses, and wines are organized, along with fruit and vegetables from the organic garden, grown without chemical treatments.
The property is located on the Via Matildica del Volto Santo, at the fifth stage of the pilgrimage route from Mantua to Lucca. From here, you can reach on foot Castello di Canossa and Parco Matildico di Montalto, as well as charming villages and rural churches of the Reggiano Apennines. Private internal parking.
The Corte Viaggiante di Matilde di Canossa, a historical reenactment group preserving medieval clothing and furnishings, is also based here, with displays visible in some rooms of the agriturismo.
