Description Terre Di Himera

Terre di Himera is a rural tourist retreat which continues to preserve the characteristics of the Sicilian farmer’s home. A large patio, called “pinnata”, connects the inside, cool and comfortable even in the summer heat, with the sun-drenched countryside. The house is built of exposed local stone with wooden beams. Inside are six rooms with elegant and comfortable amenities, all independent and opening directly onto the garden. Each room has its own style and history. Furniture from all over the island was chosen and restored for each room, individually selected to provide a unique and personal atmosphere. Terre di Himera is a place beyond time, where one can rediscover one’s self or lose one’s self. A place where one can indulge in the remote calm, enjoy endless breakfasts “al fresco” or where one can spend a relaxing evening after a long walk or an excursion in search of the numerous artistic and cultural riches of this region. Our guests can enjoy local dishes and products, all organic and natural. The menus we offer are our way of guiding you on your discovery of the real Sicily. The area immediately surrounding our structure is of particular historical interest as it is the site of the ancient city of Himera, an important Greek colony, founded in 648 B.C. Himera played a role as a Hellenic outpost, facing Carthaginian weste Sicily. Its relevance, beyond its strategic-military purpose, is owed to the access it provided to the Tyrrhenian Sea and its consequent commercial possibilities with Etruria and with Spain, from which came enormous quantities of silver, used to coin money, a peculiarity that distinguished it from other Greek colonies. It is the ideal starting point for visiting the principal artistic sites in all of Sicily, including Cefalù, Palermo, Segesta, Selinunte, Agrigento and the most interesting nature parks: il Parco delle Madonie, il Parco dei Nebrodi.
