The “Zitelle di Ron” (the spinsters of Ron) are called Nana and Gina: They are characters from the hamlet’s past to whom this small agritourism accommodation is dedicated. Here you can book a room, just a stone’s throw from the centre of Valdobbiadene, in the characteristic hamlet of Ron at the heart of the Prosecco Superiore docg zone, the ideal place to relax without giving up on the services offered by the town centre. The three rooms were obtained by restoring a portion of the old family-house, where Nana and Gina lived with their family. The building is located in the delightful little square of Ron where, within the space of a few metres, you can find the historical fountain, the church dedicated to Saint Rocco and Saint Bernardino and the bell tower which seems to be a miniature of the towering bell tower of Valdobbiadene’s Cathedral. After the original building had been partially destroyed during the First World War, the ‘Great House with its skyblue shutters’ was built and for a time some of the brothers and sisters lived there with their respective families, while other family members came and went, to and from the War frontlines, Switzerland and Venice with their cardboard suitcases. A place like so many others with their stories of the family, war, emigration, hard work, successes, failures and rebuilding, stories of strong and courageous women, exemplified by a certain point when the head of the family lost the family estate in a misguided business deal and it was left to his wife, the great grandmother Sofia, to reacquire the family property and restore order in the family... After everyone else had left, only two sisters Nana and Gina remained. Two spinsters of advanced age whom many remember to be bad-tempered and irritable... yet women of strong character. Giovanna, called “Nana”, was a cook who had worked for many years for the hotel and restaurant ‘Alla Torre’, a historical local business in Valdobbiadene, and then at Venice for the restaurant “Le Chat qui rid” not far from Saint Mark’s square. In her seventies she retired to the family home together with her sister Luigia aka ‘Gina’, who worked as a seamstress all her life while looking after the family home and property. Together they passed the final years of their lives. And so it is that the three suites have taken on the names of the spinsters and the family’s nickname ‘Bartenela’.
