Il Picchio Golf Resort is a hotel in Castiglione di Sicilia, in the Alcantara Valley. It stands 600 metres above sea level, in the Etna DOC wine area, a few kilometres from Taormina and the main tourist destinations in Sicily. The resort is set in a park with centuries-old trees and gardens. It combines the style of a relais with modern standards of comfort and functionality.
The hotel restaurant is called "Il Palmento" and seats up to 160. It serves traditional Sicilian and international cuisine, Etna wines and home-made desserts. It also caters for receptions for events and special occasions. A continental buffet breakfast is served from 7.30 to 10.00, lunch from 12.30 to 14.00 and dinner from 20.00 to 22.00. Breakfast and cold dinners can also be requested in your room. The bar is open all day for snacks, nibbles, drinks and coffee.
The Picciolo Golf Club is 800 metres from the resort. It is the first 18-hole golf course in Sicily, built in 1989 to a design by the architect Luigi Rota Caremoli. The course is surrounded by oak woods, hazelnut groves and rows of vines. It has a Club House and a Giardino Ristorante. Hotel guests have use of a short-game practice area, handy for warming up before heading to the Picciolo Golf Club or for trying the sport for the first time.
A shuttle bus runs transfers in the area and connects the property with Catania airport and the golf course. The whole property is accessible to guests with disabilities. There is an outdoor play area for children. In summer a small fitness area is available, and the evenings are enlivened by music and entertainment. The car park is large and free of charge, as are all the sports facilities.
