The Agriturismo Villa dei Papiri is an old 19th-century Sicilian farmhouse, covering 13 hectares with organic cultivation of lemons (the Syracuse femminiello) and oranges (mori, tarocchi comuni and nocellari). It is surrounded by papyrus trees more than 3 metres tall, palm trees, centuries-old olive trees, almond trees, carobs, cypresses, bonsai trees and other wonderful Mediterranean plants. It is located 5 km from Syracuse, in the River Ciane & Saline Nature Reserve, three metres from the mythological Fonte Ciane, the source of the myth of Proserpina extolled in Ovid's Metamorphoses, surrounded by wonderful Egyptian papyrus. Papyrus is precisely the same papyrus used since time immemorial for the preparation of those extraordinary paper scrolls on which much of human history has been handed down, and it continues to grow wild in this unique place. The area is also of archaeological as well as natural interest, as numerous Palaeolithic remains such as graves and workplaces with caves and wells have been found. These findings are invaluable witnesses to the presence of ancient Siculian human settlements, the Indo-European ethnic group that populated eastern Sicily, while the other non-Indo-European ethnic groups of the Elymians and Sicans inhabited the west and centre of the island respectively, according to the historian Thucydides. And it is in this vast nature reserve that the Villa dei Papiri, a historic building of great landscape value, is located. Surrounded by greenery and equipped with every comfort, it offers its visitors the opportunity to relax and appreciate the beauty of the place.

The suites are distributed over two levels (ground floor and mezzanine). They have a living space ranging from 45 sqm (suites with 2 beds) to over 65 sqm (suites with up to 5 beds) divided as follows: a dining/living area with a fully equipped kitchenette for cooking and serving meals, a television, a mini bar fridge, a table, chairs and one or two wrought iron sofa beds a spacious bathroom with shower a bedroom on the mezzanine furnished with a wrought iron four-poster double bed, a wrought iron sofa bed (only in the larger ones), a spacious wardrobe and two bedside tables. With the exception of the bathroom, all rooms are interconnected a garden belonging to each suite with outdoor table, chairs and parasol. The furniture and decorations (beds, tables, chairs, ceramics…) are high-quality artisanal craftsmanship. The suites are equipped with independent heating and air conditioning
