Agriturismo in Trentino-Alto-Adige-Sudtirol with Outdoor Pool, Restaurant

Farm stays in Trentino-Alto Adige sit in the Italian Alps, where the farming is dairy, apples and mountain wine rather than olives and vines. The region is bilingual — Italian and German are both official, and in South Tyrol German is the first language of most farming families — so expect Alpine building, Alpine food and Italian coffee in the same breakfast room.

The two halves

South Tyrol, in the north, runs from the Adige valley orchards up to the Dolomites. Farms here are typically small holdings on steep slopes above villages like Ortisei, Castelrotto and Merano, with meadows that are cut for hay twice a summer. Trentino, to the south, is milder and lower in places, taking in Lake Garda's northern tip at Riva, the Val di Non apple belt, and the wine villages south of Trento. The Dolomites straddle both and are the reason most visitors come.

What these farms are like

  • Working dairy farms where guests can watch the milking and the cheese-making
  • Apartments with kitchen and balcony rather than hotel rooms, the standard format here
  • Speck, mountain cheese, rye bread and apple strudel served at breakfast
  • Trails from the door in summer; in winter, farms within reach of ski lifts
  • Wood-panelled Stube interiors, and animals children can meet — this is the most family-oriented region in Italy for farm stays

Seasons

Unlike most of Italy, this region has two full seasons. Summer, from late June to mid-September, is for walking, via ferrata and mountain huts; hay-making and the return of cattle from high pasture in September are working events you can see. Winter, from December to March, is for skiing, with the Dolomiti Superski network on the doorstep. Late April to early June and late October to November are quiet, cheap and often the moment farms close.

The A22 motorway from the Brenner Pass runs the length of the region, and trains reach Bolzano, Trento and Merano. Roads to individual farms can be steep and narrow; winter tyres are a legal requirement in the cold months.

In Trentino-Alto-Adige-Sudtirol we have 112 farmhouses, including 26 with swimming pool, 29 with restaurant and 33 pet friendly.

Frequently asked questions about Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol

How many agriturismi are there in Trentino-Alto Adige?
The portal lists 112 certified agriturismi active in Trentino-Alto Adige. The offering is split almost evenly between the two autonomous provinces: Bolzano has 58 structures, Trento has 54. Density is highest in the alpine valleys and on the Dolomite plateaus, where mountain farming runs alongside rural hospitality.
Which areas are best for an agriturismo in Trentino-Alto Adige?
The areas with the highest concentration of structures are Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Alpe di Siusi, and Plan de Corones for those seeking Dolomite landscapes. Val Venosta and Valli di Tures ed Aurina offer more isolated settings. Val di Fiemme, Vallagarina, and Dolomiti del Brenta are solid options on the Trentino side. Merano, Bolzano and surroundings, and Val d'Ega round out the valley-floor offering.
What do agriturismi in Trentino-Alto Adige serve?
The cuisine varies considerably between the two provinces. In Alto Adige, canederli, speck DOP, graukäse cheeses, and apple strudel are staples. In Trentino, polenta with mushrooms, zelten, malga cheeses, and freshwater trout take center stage. DOC wines from the valleys — Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Marzemino, and Müller Thurgau — accompany almost every agriturismo table.
When is the best time to visit agriturismi in Trentino-Alto Adige?
Summer, from June through August, gives full access to alpine trails and malghe. September and October coincide with the grape harvest in the wine valleys and with masi festivals. Winter works well near ski resorts. Spring is the least crowded season: masi open, pastures coming back to life, prices lower.
What services do agriturismi in Trentino-Alto Adige offer?
Common services include an on-site restaurant with house cooking, a pool, pet-friendly accommodations, fattorie didattiche, and direct production of cheeses or speck. Some structures have a sauna and wellness area, in keeping with the local spa tradition. On Agriturismi.it you can filter structures by specific service to find the one that fits your needs.
What activities can you do at an agriturismo in Trentino-Alto Adige?
The most practiced activities include trekking and mountain biking on CAI trails and local networks, tastings of DOC wines and Trentino grappa distillates, visits to malga dairies, and speck production workshops. In winter, many structures sit a few kilometers from the slopes at Plan de Corones, Val Gardena, and Alta Pusteria. Fattorie didattiche are a concrete option for families with children.
