A few kilometres from Prato, on the first slopes of the Calvana mountains, lies the small rural village of Fabio. The area is of particular historical interest, as demonstrated by the origin of the name Fabio, deriving from that of an ancient Roman family, 'la gens Fabia'. It is also an area of considerable landscape interest: the dark green of the forests contrasts with the light green of the pastures and the gentle slopes, alternating with natural terraces, are dominated by olive trees. The still intact agricultural and forest landscape is dotted with ancient settlements that preserve part of the original rural architecture. It is an ideal place for trekking and mountain biking: the ancient shepherds' paths lead to the top of the Calvana mountains, which recently became a nature park. After careful conservative restoration, the farmhouse and hayloft of the 'Ponticello' farm, while maintaining the architectural characteristics of the rustic Tuscan farmhouse, have become a comfortable farmhouse opened on 30 May 2005. Situated on a hillock near a stream, in a sunny position and surrounded by green woods, it dominates the surrounding olive groves and pastures. The flats, which have been completely renovated, still retain the atmosphere of the old farmhouses: the exposed beams of the ceilings, the spacious rooms and the old family furniture allow our guests to spend their holidays in a cosy, family atmosphere. The farmhouse has 4 flats with one or two rooms, each with its own bathroom, large living room, heating and large kitchens equipped with every comfort such as dishwasher and microwave oven. Outside, each flat has ample green space and a convenient car park. The farm's activities also include the Educational Farm, open to guests who decide to get closer to the world of agriculture to live an experience in which they can feel like protagonists, participate in agricultural activities and learn about the culture, history and traditions of the area.
