Description Fornace Certosa

WELCOME In a wonderful medieval landscape we offer nature, art and culture. In our castle-museum you can see the story of the most famous medieval knights painted (the descriptive brochure translated into English costs € 2.5). In the Church of the Miracles you can see the story of the most famous miracles of Jesus and St. Anthony of Padua painted (the descriptive brochure translated into English costs € 2.5). Our book 'I miei Navigli' describes with colour pictures the centuries-old history of navigation in Milan and Pavia (with English translation). On offer €10. WE ARE A FEW METRES FROM THE CERTOSA DI PAVIA (14th cent.). Over the centuries, the Certosa di Pavia was an obligatory passage and home to rulers and knights. In 1525 it was the scene of the historic Battle of Pavia between the French army of King Francis I of France and the Spanish army of King Charles V of Spain. A bloody battle that ended with the capture of the King of France, changing the fate of Europe - Today, lovers of history and art come from all over the world to visit what is considered the most beautiful Charterhouse in the world. WE ARE 5 KM FROM PAVIA (Where every place is a story). Founded by the Romans under the name of Ticinum in 89 B.C. to whom we owe the layout of the city that has remained intact to this day. It then became the capital of the Longobard Kingdom from 625 to 774 and was the most important centre of Longobard culture. Visit the University founded in 1361 by Emperor Charles IV, one of the oldest in Italy, and the Civic Museums inside the Visconti Castle. While the 14th-century Gothic Ark where Saint Augustine rests is preserved in the 11th-century San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro. Barbarossa was crowned king of Italy in 1155 inside the Basilica di San Michele Maggiore. Then take a walk on the Ponte Coperto (covered bridge) that connects the old town to Borgo Ticino, crossing the river of the same name. At Mirabello, near Certosa di Pavia, there is the 14th-century castle where King Francis I of France stayed during the siege of Pavia, before his capture in battle that took place near our Agriturismo. And then travel through the landscape of the Oltrepò Pavese among its renowned wine hills.
