The Masseria Castro rises in the immediate vicinity of the ancient Casale di Castro, which was destroyed in 1300 and was already mentioned in 1195 in Pope Arrigo VI's Bull (addressed to the abbot of the convent of Santo Stefano, near the present-day town of Monopoli, conferring possession on the Benedictine order). The Masseria Castro is located a few km. from the ancient archaeological site of Egnatia, with an adjoining museum, and close to an area rich in rock settlements (blades, caves, hypogea, and old oil mills) where, since 1987, the Living Crib (a typical cross-section of rural life and culture from the 1800s) has been staged during the Christmas period. Situated in a quiet location, the complex opens out into a courtyard, surrounded by stables and barns that have been wisely restored and restored to their original beauty, in the midst of millenary olive trees, it is 4 km from the sea and 6 km from the hills of the Itria Valley. Close to Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino, Ostuni (white lady of the olive trees), Martina Franca (typical expression of Apulian baroque), Castellana with its wonderful caves and Grottaglie famous for its ceramics.
