In the middle of the Marche countryside, a well-kept lawn with a tall mulberry tree in the middle and a pastel-coloured house are the welcome that the Locanda del Gelso gives its guests. The serenity of this bucolic image continues once inside: seated in one of the two simple but comfortable dining rooms with wooden tables and straw chairs, you can enjoy an authentic country meal, with few but well-executed dishes. Great attention is paid to the choice of ingredients, almost all of which are grown and bred on the thirteen hectares of the farm surrounding the inn. The antipasto misto of crostini salumi and cheeses with warm piadina and polenta is a must, followed by the excellent and sumptuous homemade pasta dishes: pumpkin ravioli with Fossa cheese, tagliatelle with squash flowers or sausage ragu, and gnocchi with duck. The main courses are those of the northern Marca tradition: grilled pork skewers and ribs, roast poultry (including the masterful rabbit with wild fennel), and at weekends the beef pasticciata (a sort of braised beef). The desserts are good, including tarts and cakes. For wine, you can choose between house wine and some local labels. Friendly service that in summer takes place outdoors on the lawn, amidst mulberry and olive trees. Upstairs there are a few but comfortable rooms for those who want to extend their stay.
