At Fattoria Bigongiari, 7 km from Lucca, the Bigongiari family has been raising around one hundred cattle and pigs for generations, along with donkeys, ducks, geese, chickens, peacocks and pigeons that you'll encounter walking through the fields. The farm is managed by brothers Mario, Carlo and Annibale, who divide their time between the stables, the land and welcoming guests.
Guests sleep in seven apartments housed in a seventeenth-century villa, each named after a farmhand who once worked the land: Nello, Guido, Rosina, Lina, Leda, Eugenio, Divo. Every accommodation has an equipped kitchen, living room, private bathroom and its own outdoor space. There is no breakfast service or restaurant: you cook independently, using meat, cured meats, eggs and cheese purchased at the farm shop, where the family also sells what they produce to passing customers shopping for provisions.
The centre of Lucca is 7 km away, the Versilia beaches about fifteen. Smoking is permitted, there is parking, and pets are welcome by prior arrangement with the owners.
