Angelo Starz planted the vineyards first in 1954, then again in 1971; his grandson Dean Verginella stopped giving away wine and in 2007 founded the osmiza. Tables are nestled between the vineyard rows, others on a terrace overlooking the Gulf of Trieste. You can drink Malvasia in its pure form or on tap, and Kamelot, a red blend composed of 40% Merlot, 30% Refosco and 30% Cabernet. There is also a white wine that combines Malvasia with percentages of Sauvignon, Friulano, Glera and Vitovska. The table is laden with cured meats, cheeses, hard-boiled eggs and pickled vegetables. The family's olive oil, pressed from Bianchera olives, is also available for purchase.
For Dean it is still a hobby, but he hopes it will become his only job. It's best to book ahead: the tables among the vines fill up quickly, and here no one rushes you through your meal.
