Casale dei Dotti occupies a rural building from 1864, surrounded by a centuries-old olive grove and a swimming pool, in the countryside around Perugia. The name comes from the family of its founder, Gian Pietro Dottorini. In 2009 the farmhouse was renovated to combine hospitality with agricultural work, preserving the oak beams and local stone of the original walls. Each apartment reflects a part of the building's history.
A breakfast basket arrives in your room with yogurt, milk, biscuits and a typical Umbrian sweet. In the garden, a barbecue area is available free of charge.
The olive grove is cultivated using traditional methods, without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The olives are harvested by hand, and the oil is obtained through cold pressing. In October and November guests can participate in the harvest and take home a bottle of the new oil. In the evening, those who wish can taste it on bruschetta in front of the fireplace. In summer, the same trees provide shade around the pool, perfect for reading or lunch.
You can book a tasting of typical local products with views over the countryside, or a tour of the farm among the cellar, livestock area, vineyards and century-old olive grove. Those who prefer to cook can take a traditional cooking lesson directly in the apartment kitchen, using oil, truffle, mushrooms and saffron.
In the surrounding area, horseback riding excursions of varying lengths are organized, from one hour to a full day, as well as bike tours around Lake Trasimeno and boat or canoe outings on the lake, with the Maggiore and Polvese islands also accessible by ferry. Guests receive discounts on rafting, fly fishing and golf.
The farmhouse also hosts birthdays, anniversaries, ceremonies and corporate meetings, with catering service available upon request.
