In Carpino, in the olive plain overlooking Lake Varano, the Russi family has been producing organic extra virgin oil for over a hundred years: the great-grandparents in 1907, the grandfather who plants the olive grove in 1955, father Matteo who bottles the first oil in 1995. The agritourism arrived in 2006, right within the olive grove itself. Today it is run by Maria Giulia and Domenico, the fourth generation, with parents Graziana and Matteo still working the land and grandmother Marì in the kitchen. It is she who passes on the family recipes to those who cook for guests. The Gargano National Park surrounds the property on all sides: centuries-old olive trees, the lake below, Carpino – the city of oil – just a few steps away. The oil produced on the farm, MacchiaRotonda brand, arrives on the table alongside products from the family's land. The rest is told by those who live here: a family that works the earth every day and opens the doors of their home to all who arrive.
