How we rank properties

Agriturismo in Sardinia with Restaurant, Educational Farm

Farm stays in Sardinia are rooted in sheep farming. The island has more sheep than people, and pecorino, ricotta and lamb sit at the centre of the table on most farms. Away from the resort coast, the interior is one of the emptiest and least commercial parts of Italy.

Where to base yourself

The Barbagia, in the mountainous centre around Nuoro and Orgosolo, is the most traditional area: shepherding, granite peaks and villages where Sardinian is still the everyday language. The Ogliastra on the east coast combines the Gennargentu mountains with the beaches of Cala Gonone and Baunei. In the north-west, the Nurra and Planargia around Alghero and Bosa mix vineyards with a Catalan-influenced coast. The south, around the Sulcis and the Costa Verde, has dunes, wetlands and old mining country.

What these farms offer

  • Pecorino sardo and ricotta made on site, and the pane carasau baked to go with them
  • Cannonau and Vermentino di Gallura from farms that grow their own grapes
  • Long farm dinners built around roast meat and seasonal vegetables
  • Horse riding, and walks into the Supramonte gorges and nuraghe sites
  • Inland locations twenty to forty minutes from beaches, at a fraction of coastal prices

Timing and access

May, June, September and October are the best months, with warm sea in autumn and wildflowers in spring. July and August are hot and the coast is expensive and full; inland farms stay far better value. Winter is mild but many coastal businesses close, while the interior stays open and cold at night.

Ferries run from Genoa, Livorno and Civitavecchia; airports at Cagliari, Olbia and Alghero take direct European flights. A car is essential — public transport in the interior is minimal, and distances between the coast and the mountain villages are longer than they look.

In Sardinia we have 147 farmhouses, including 52 with swimming pool, 101 with restaurant and 69 pet friendly.

Here is the list of our farms with the restaurant. Eating in a farmhouse means finding the regional cuisine cooked with high quality ingredients at the right price. Enjoy your meal! in Sardinia.

The best educational-farm agritourism stays: animals, garden, workshops and nature for children and families, with locally sourced produce and guided activities.

Frequently asked questions about Sardinia

How many agriturismi are there in Sardinia, and how are they distributed?
Sardinia has 147 active agriturismo structures. The province with the highest concentration is Sassari with 36 structures, followed by Oristano (24), Nuoro (22), Gallura Nord-Est Sardegna (19) and Cagliari (17). The offer covers both coastal areas and the mountainous interior, with very different characteristics from one area to another.
Which areas of Sardinia are most suited to a farm-stay holiday?
The Gallura and the Costa Smeralda offer structures close to the sea in northern Sardinia. The Barbagia and Gennargentu and the Supramonte are the reference areas for rural tourism in the Nuoro hinterland. The Gulf of Orosei and the Ogliastra combine coast and mountains. In the south of the island you will find the agricultural Campidano, the Sulcis and the Iglesiente.
What food is served at a Sardinian agriturismo?
The estate's own cuisine revolves around pane carasau, culurgiones, malloreddus, roast suckling pig and cheeses such as Pecorino Sardo DOP and Fiore Sardo DOP. Cured meats include Villagrande ham. Among the wines: Cannonau di Sardegna DOC, Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, Carignano del Sulcis DOC and Vernaccia di Oristano DOC.
When is the best time to go to an agriturismo in Sardinia?
From May to June and in September the temperature is mild, prices are lower than in August, and the island is less crowded. July and August remain the peak months, with higher rates especially in northern Sardinia. Autumn is the season of grape harvests, olive picking and dairy products, with good availability in the inland areas.
What services do agriturismi in Sardinia offer?
Services vary greatly from one structure to another. Among the most common: dining with the estate's own kitchen, a swimming pool, pet-friendly hospitality, family activities and an educational farm. Some structures offer on-estate tastings, wine trails or wellness treatments. On Agriturismi.it you can filter structures by individual service and find the one that suits your needs.
What activities can you do at an agriturismo in Sardinia?
In the interior — the Barbagia and Gennargentu, the Ogliastra, the Anglona — hiking, horseback excursions and visits to nuraghi and archaeological sites are common. Along the Gulf of Orosei a farm stay combines with boat excursions. In the Campidano and the Nurra you take part in grape and olive harvests. The coastal areas make it easy to reach beaches and seabeds for diving.
