Description Il Rigo

The Il Rigo farm has been a certified organic farm since 1990. It is one of the first in our area to have embraced this environmental policy. We grow cereals (wheat, spelt, oats) and pulses in rotation and seed for fodder. Production is wholesale, however we reserve a portion of the harvest for use in the kitchen and for retail sale on the farm. Near the village of San Quirico we have an olive grove, whose product is cold-pressed in the village's old stone mill. Given the small production, we do not reserve our oil for sale, but only for direct consumption by our guests and family members. Near the house there is a vegetable garden and some fruit trees. The products of this homemade activity are used to prepare breakfast jams and are served during dinner.

Description rooms

We have furnished our inn like a home, using old furniture from the farm, some of which are genuine antique pieces. We chose not to put a television to avoid disturbing the tranquility of these places; magazines and books are available to browse and we think it is more pleasant to gather together to enjoy a glass of wine. Casabianca – the main structure - hosts most of the agritourism rooms. It is a stone building and preserves the original layout of the XVI century. On one of the walls, a coat of arms dated 1572 testifies to the belonging of this building to the properties of the Hospital of S. Maria della Scala. Inside there is a beautiful courtyard with the old wood-burning oven from which you access the old granary, where dinner is served every evening. The reception and the restaurant are located in this building. Poggio Bacoca – the farm in red bricks – is 900m away from Casabianca. It can be reached by car in less than two minutes.

Typical Cuisine
In the evening, we are delighted to invite you to our table! Lorenza and Vittorio started exactly like this, dining together at a single convivial table! Today we no longer sit down with you (we don't have time!), but we like to think that you are our guests, and we are pleased to tell you our story and our love for this land and its products through our cuisine. We try to do everything by hand, from fresh pasta, to desserts, to jams, to sourdough bread! We never stop and are constantly searching for ancient flavors and local products made with love: we are passionate about cooking! The recipes you will taste are from the Tuscan tradition: pici all'aglione, ribollita, bruschette, coniglio allo zafferano and maiale arrosto, cantucci and salame di cioccolata – these are just some of our offerings, to be paired with some of the most famous Tuscan red wines such as Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti colli senesi and Orcia DOC. For breakfast we offer you a selection of artisanal cured meats and pecorino di Pienza DOP, which we purchase from a small neighboring company. The morning desserts are prepared with organic flours from our cereals ground fresh. The jams are all homemade, with fruits from the trees scattered throughout the farm. Although our menus always include a meat course, we are very happy to accommodate our guests with food intolerances, preparing vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free alternatives upon request.

Surroundings (San Quirico d'Orcia)

Just start walking on the roads around Rigo to reach in a short time the Chapel of Vitaleta, Pienza, Bagno Vignoni and San Quirico. Maps and tourist guides are available at reception to move around at best in our countryside. A few kilometers from our farm passes the historic cyclo-tourism race "l'Eroica", along a route of gravel roads, open all year round. For the most sporty there are beautiful routes on Mount Amiata, while for the less athletic there is the possibility of renting e-bikes in the nearby village, bicycles with assisted pedaling. In Castiglione d'Orcia the riding school offers the possibility of organizing guided horseback rides.
