I Segreti del Borgo is an agriturismo in Penna in Teverina, on a 25-hectare farm estate. It is 8 km from the Orte exit of the A1 motorway (Rome-Florence) and 6 km from Orte Scalo railway station, from where you can reach Rome in about 30 minutes.
On the estate stands an old castle-style building in medieval style, with a small tower that overlooks the whole valley and offers a 360-degree view. Two organically cultivated vegetable gardens, the stable and a large orchard supply produce for both sale and the kitchen. Children can visit the many farm animals, and you can walk or stop to rest in the shade of old oak trees.
The six rooms, all with private bathroom, are inside the castle: three on the first floor and three on the second. The rooms on the second floor have special finishes, handmade by the owners using reclaimed materials. Each room is named after a mythological couple: Apollo e Dafne, Adone e Venere, Amore e Psiche, Bacco e Arianna, Orfeo e Euridice, Tristano e Isotta.
The restaurant is at the foot of the castle, finished in local stone and chestnut wood, with a large wall fireplace and 48 seats. Most dishes are made with the farm's own produce: eggs and meat from the farm, vegetables and fruit from the gardens. Among the most popular first courses are the strangozzi del borgo with asparagus and walnuts, the maltagliati alla micheletto with mushrooms and minced pork, and the bucatini all'amatriciana, a house speciality.
