Agriturismo in The Matese Mountains with Pets Welcome, Couples and Boyfriends

The Matese is an Apennine massif between Campania and Molise, more than 60 km long. Its highest peak is Monte Miletto, 2,050 metres, which is also the highest summit in Molise. It is a mountain of pastures and beech woods, where herds of cattle, flocks of sheep and horses roam free. On the Campania side is the Matese Regional Park, and in 2025 a National Park was also created, with boundaries that are still provisional.

The farm stays in the Matese listed on Agriturismi.it are in Cusano Mutri, San Gregorio Matese and Fontegreca, all with a restaurant serving local food. The page also shows those in the surrounding area. In their reviews, guests mostly mention the welcome from the hosts.

San Gregorio Matese is on Lake Matese. On the Molise side is the Campitello Matese ski resort.

WHERE TO STAY IN THE MATESE: in San Gregorio Matese, on the lake; in Cusano Mutri, a medieval village on a rocky ridge; and in Fontegreca, near the Bosco degli Zappini.

FOOD AND WINE: Caciocavallo Silano DOP, fiordilatte mozzarella from Bojano, mountain cheeses and honey, lake trout and Melannurca Campana IGP apples. To drink, the Sannio wines and Falanghina on the Benevento side, Tintilia in Molise.
